Special Issue (Topics) Guidelines

Malaysian Journal of Mathematical Sciences (MJMS) acts as an international platform in the sharing of the latest cutting-edge developments within the field of mathematical sciences along with identifying emerging trends and future directions of research.

Our international base of authors addresses important and hot topic areas which have local and international impact on future advancements.

One key development goal for the journal is to launch new Special Issues which explore the latest hot topics within the scope of the journal. Special Issues help to generate a greater level of interest, discussion and awareness around a dedicated topic. We aim to attract high quality, timely articles which highlight emerging areas of research within a field or provide a venue for a deeper investigation into existing research topics.

We would like to invite you to contribute

As an experienced researcher and a valued reviewer of Malaysian Journal of Mathematical Sciences (MJMS) articles, we would like to invite you to propose a Special Issue in a hot topic area for the journal.

If you are interested in this invitation, please suggest a key topic which needs further exploration in your country and which you believe will have local and worldwide impact.

Submission of Special Issue proposals, meaning they are straightforward to write and submit, with most proposals are within or approximately 400 words. All submitted proposals are reviewed by the journal’s Editorial Board.

Your responsibilities as Lead Guest Editor

As the Lead Guest Editor for a Special Issue, you will be responsible for the editorial direction of a collection of articles on a topic. As part of the position, you will assemble a team of Guest Editors which consist of maximum two editors from different country to help manage the peer review of submitted manuscripts. An introductory Editorial for your Special Issue will also be required. We provide in detail the guidelines regarding preparation and publication for your reference.

Preparing a Proposal

Guest Editors should prepare a proposal for the Special Issue and submit it to the Editor‐in‐Chief and to MJMS for their approval. The proposal should contain the following information:

  • Tentative title for the Special Issue
  • A one-page outline summarizing the objectives of the Special Issue
  • Tentative time schedule
  • List of potential contributions (maximum 15 articles)

Inviting Authors

It is the Guest Editors' role to select authors and invite them to submit papers for the Special Issue which are of the highest quality in terms of science and presentation. They should also ensure that all articles submitted conform to the editorial and publication policies of the MJMS. Each manuscript submitted must be original, not published formally elsewhere, and must be peer reviewed by at least two specialists in the field.

Guest Editors are required to keep in close contact with the Editor and Associate Editor, informing them of the full table of contents and the outline of the issue as soon as this is available. Guest Editors should inform authors of the proposed time schedule for the Special Issue.

Submissions Procedure

Authors must submit their papers for the Special Issue via email mjms.inspem[at]upm.edu.my

Once papers have been submitted, the Associate Editor will liaise with the Guest Editors regarding the selection of reviewers and keep them informed of the status of papers. When the referees’ reports have been received, the Guest Editors will be asked to make an initial decision, and if necessary, the paper will be sent out for revision. Once the Guest Editors have recommended to accept or reject a paper, the final decision will rest with the Editor‐in‐Chief. The journals office will inform authors of the final status of the paper.

Publication

Guest Editors will be required to submit a preface/editorial for the Special Issue and will liaise with the Editor regarding the requirements for this matter.

Guest Editors will also advise the journals office about the order in which they wish articles to appear.

Once the papers have been accepted by the Editor, they are then transmitted to the publisher’s production department.

Our editorial office will be on hand to provide you with any necessary assistance and our marketing teams will promote your Special Issue once it is published.

All articles accepted for publication in Special Issues are subject to an Article Processing Charge (APC) – find out more about Malaysian Journal of Mathematical Sciences (MJMS) APC Policy. The Special Issue Editorial Team receive one complimentary APC waivers that they can use either to commission Review articles or to publish Review or Research articles themselves.
